Adoption Information

Behavior Advice from Janis Driscoll

Please read through the following information and all questions on the application before applying.  Incomplete applications will not be consider!

Before filing an application, please be aware of the following:

General Behavior

  • Dogs do not reach their full physical and mental maturity until between two and four years of age.  They may therefore act like normal puppies; they may chew, jump, and can experience submissive peeing.
  • Changing homes is traumatic and a dog new to any home may become un-housebroken, shake, or act VERY timid.  A dog in a new home will most likely be clingy and reluctant to lose sight of the new owner.

The Rules:

  • ALL PETS living at this address (of applicant) whether owned by the applicant, a relative, friend, neighbor, MUST also be spayed/neutered and all vaccinations are to be current at the time of adoption.

  • To adopt, you must be 18 years of age or older.

  • You must have identification showing your present address, and have proof of the knowledge and consent of your landlord, if applicable

  • You must be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care of your dog.  (Plan on $200-$300 per year to maintain each animal's health and to provide proper feed.

  • You must be willing to care for this animal for his/her entire lifetime - up to 12-16 years.

  • You must pledge to fit the animal into your lifestyle and treat him as a valued member of your family.

  • You must commit to returning the dog you adopt to Wyoming Longears Ranch Basset Rescue if it becomes impossible for you to maintain him/her appropriately.

LONGEARS RANCH rescues MANY other breeds as well as the Basset Hound.
